Diggerland - Centre of Attraction
It’s the ultimate playground for mechanical differ fans and now the UK’s largest Diggerland adventure park has improved its facilities with new visitors’ centre.
It is the first permanent building at the 70-acre amusement park, near Castleford.Skipton-based structural and civil engineering consultancy Paul Waite Associates completed the work on the former coalfield site. Members of the 15-strong team stabilised the site with piles and specially-adapted foundations and designed a sustainable drainage system to reduce water run-off on the Greenfield site.
Tim Davis, civil engineer at Paul Waite Associates, said: “Building safely in potentially unstable locations like former colliery sites requires expert knowledge. We’re now working with Diggerland and contractor ADD Construction, with whom we have an established relationship, to find ways in which engineering work can further develop the park’s ecology.”
Mick Coleman, Diggerland’s UK operations director, added: “The new visitors’ centre is a major step forward as we develop Diggerland’s newest park. As visitor numbers continue to rise, its important that we provide the facilities customers expect.”A separate Dig Inn restaurant building is scheduled to open later this year.
