Asquith Hall

A 50 bed stone nursing home built on the site of the former Mons Mill within Todmorden. This building complemented the adjacent care home, which was in the same ownership.

PWA’s role under D&B contract was to provide all the engineering design for the sub and superstructure, in line with our tender proposals. We provided engineering support from tender stage.

Following a walk over survey and a few trial pits, our foundation solution was a ground supported slab, with a ring beam foundation to the external walls. This saved the cost of piling and excavation for a suspended slab. In respect of the contamination, our geo-environmental engineers reassessed the data given in the site investigation and soon realised that the previous consultants had wrongly interpreted the results; in reality, the site was not contaminated and this led to major saving in Tritons tender.
