Project: Harewood Estate, Nr Leeds
Client: Harewood Estate
Architectural Design: Paul Waite Associates
Description: Working with Harewood Estate to convert over 35000 ft² of their redundant farm buildings into modern office units. The resulting Business Park, known as Harewood Yard, has been developed from a complex of eighteenth century farm buildings, originally designed by John Carr, the architect responsible for Harewood House. As such, most of these buildings had Grade II listings and all falling within a conservation area. Our sensitive design allowed the conversion of these buildings to form new offices, which satisfy all the technical demands of today’s modern company. The original features have been retained and restored to create offices of exceptional character. In response we achieved a design award for the conversion of the Grain Store.
The development is a successful marriage of rural tranquillity and modern technology, enabling companies to function as efficiently in the country as in the city, but without the city's problems of excessive traffic and restricted parking.
