Old Hands needed to teach new engineers

A Cross Hills company is spearheading a pioneering scheme to help build budding civil and structural engineers.

Paul Waite Associates is seeking retired engineers to pass on their knowledge and expertise to the next generation.

The engineering consultancy firm said it employed several people striving for chartered status who would benefit from extra nurturing and guidance.

Managing director Paul Waite said: “This region has a wealth of recently retired engineers whose minds are still buzzing with the latest industry trends, best practice and know-how.  My younger team members are passionate about learning from the best and it’s important that as a small company we are able to offer them the focused, one-to-one support that they need to sail through their exams.

“The retired structural engineers we are currently seeking will get the support they need to mentor our staff and pass on their years of experience.  It’s a breakthrough for the industry as a whole and, if successful, we are hoping to roll it out across the region so that other companies will be able to tap into the same resource.

“This initiative reinforces our company’s ethos that everyone has a contribution to make, even after they’ve left the industry.  Chartered status is very challenging to achieve and involves compiling a bank of work as well as undertaking a gruelling seven-hour exam, so the more support we can draw upon the better.”

The firm is working with Otley-based recruitment company LCA Resourcing to select candidates.

Anyone interested in participating is asked to contact Emily Bastow, at LCA Resourcing, on 01943 854050.
